Figure 4: Parallel temperature estimates. The parallel (field-aligned) temperature can be estimated from the vertical extent of the torus, most easily measured in the warm bright "ribbon" feature. Here we measure the field-aligned FWHM of the ansae in figure 3, and using the single-species model of Hill and Michel [1976], calculate parallel temperatures (listed in table III). Because the torus is far from single-species, these temperates are probably about 25% too high.
